Original Watercolors by Sharon Mayfield

Creating is something I have loved since childhood. Whether drawing, embroidering, knitting, sewing, rug making, quilting, etc., I enjoy making things with my hands.

I put aside my drawing as I grew into adulthood and family responsibilities. “Art” seemed like a waste of time. It didn’t seem to have any real purpose and felt like time that should be put to better uses. A few years ago, I finally gave myself permission to waste some time on it again and see where it leads.  Exodus 35:30-35 talks about how God filled Bazalel “with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship to devise artistic designs …” to work on the sanctuary.  I believe there are still people who are filled with God given abilities in the arts. And then there are those, like me, who maybe have to practice a little more.

I’m still learning and practicing and every once in a while, I don’t hate one of my finished pieces. And the best feeling is when someone else sees something I’ve done, and it lifts their spirit on an otherwise dreary day. Then, perhaps I have glorified THE Creator in some small way.

This page exists because my husband and my son have more faith in my ability than I do, and because Randy likes to make things happen.

Enjoy!
